Iyer was retained by the Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2019 Season, during which he guided the team to the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

During the 2020 season, he remained the captain of the Delhi Capitals, guiding them to their first IPL final versus the Mumbai Indians.
